Refunding online payments

Overview of refunding online payment transactions.

Written by Jennifer Meyer

Occasionally, you may need to refund an online payment that has been made. When issuing a refund, only the payment amount will be refunded, and not the transaction fee.  Below we've provided a more detailed explanation of how this will work, depending on who paid the transaction fees.

Member paid transaction fees

A member made a total payment of $104 on a $100 payment option where the transaction fees are passed along.  When refunded, this member will receive a refund in the amount of $100.  The community experiences no cost, but the member will not receive the $4 transaction fee in return.

Community paid transaction fees

Your community's member made a total payment of $100 on a $100 payment option where fees are not passed along, giving the community $96.  The community will be responsible for refunding the full $100 to the member and will not recover the $4 fee.
