How to add folders to your website and place pages inside of them.

Written by Meredith Owens

Folders are an excellent way to organize a list of pages. This feature allows you to group similar pages under a single heading, making it easier for visitors to navigate your website.

When a visitor clicks the folder name from the page menu, the folder will expand to reveal a list of the pages included inside it. You can even include a subfolder that would be visible under the main folder (learn how).

As an example, you might create a folder named "Community Documents" and insert pages for meeting minutes, financial reports, and governing documents inside of it.

How to add a folder

  1. Visit the "Pages" section in the Admin Portal, then click the "Add folder" button in the menu at the top of the page.

  2. On the next page, enter a name for the folder (e.g., Documents, Photos, Links), then click the green "Add" button.

  3. Once created, scroll to the bottom of the page list. This is where you will find the new folder. Under the "Move" column, click the double-arrow icon, and while holding it down, drag the folder above the pages you'd like to add into it.

Placing existing pages inside a folder

To place existing pages inside a folder, click the double-arrow icon under the “Move” column, then drag and hover it over the folder or the page inside the folder. As you hover over the folder, the corresponding page icon will appear to indicate which page you're moving.

When a page is moved into the folder, it will be indented in the page list and numbered in accordance with the parent folder (e.g., 7.1, 7.2, 7.3).

Note: If pages are not added to a folder, the folder will not appear in the page menu.

Add a new page to an existing folder automatically

  1. When creating a new page, click the drop-down under "Place in a folder." This will display all existing folders.

  2. From here, select your desired folder.

  3. Lastly, click the green "Add" button. Your new page will now be automatically added to the selected folder.

As you can see, creating a folder before adding the pages you plan to place in it can save you a few steps!

Removing pages from a folder

To move a page outside a folder, click the double-arrow icon in the “Move” column, then drag the page down so it is below the folder. Once that happens, the page number will no longer be indented in accordance with the parent folder.
